Richarlison denied first Tottenham Premier League goal after VAR intervention, but still shines in win over Nottingham Forest

Richarlison was denied his first Premier League strike for Tottenham but still starred in the 3-1 win against Nottingham Forest after having a hand in two goals.

The Brazilian strikertook aim at Spurs boss Antonio Conteafter the clubs midweek Champions League exit, while also hitting out at his own performances labelling the season as s***.

And Conte wasquick to agree with Richarlisons analysisof himself in his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturdays clash against Forest.

TheItalianstated: He said his season was s*** and hes right. His season has been not good. Hes scored no goals for us.

I think he was really honest to say his season was not good. His season has not finished yet. If he deserves to play Ill give him the opportunity.

Richarlisonwas given the opportunity to start against Forest, and it took him just three minutes to break the deadlock his first top-flight goal since joining from Everton last summer.

The 25-year-old latched onto a lofted through ball from Oliver Skipp, before firing the ball into the roof of the net from inside the box.

But his elation soon turned to deflation, as VAR ruled out his strike after he was deemed to be offside by the tightest of margins following a lengthy check.

Speaking on commentary for talkSPORT 2, former West Ham defender Alvin Martin said: Incredible.

I dont know how it takes that long to come to that conclusion [2 minutes, 7 seconds].

Its really sad to see a strike like that chalked off.

It was a memorable move, a memorable bit of skill and there is something not right about it.

The supporters were really lifted by moments of brilliance by Skipp and Richarlison, now theyve got to lift themselves again.

Spurs did manage to find the breakthrough in the 19th minute, though, as Harry Kane rose highest to get on the end of Pedro Porros cross to guide a header into the far corner.

Richarlison then made a huge contribution for the hosts second goal by winning Tottenham a penalty after being fouled by Joe Worrall.

Up stepped Kane where he sent Keylor Navas the wrong way to double Spurs lead.

And Richarlison then capped a fine display by laying on the assist for Heung-min Son for Spurs third.

The Brazilian found his teammate 12 yards out from goal, with the South Korean firing low into the bottom right corner.

But Spurs couldnt hold on for the clean sheet as Worrall scored what looked to be a consolation strike in the 81st minute after heading home from close range.

Forest then had a huge chance to pull another goal back deep into stoppage time, but Andre Ayew had his penalty saved by Fraser Forster.

Tottenham held on for the three points, where they are now six points clear of Liverpool in fourth spot after the Reds shock1-0 defeat at Bournemouth.
