Beyonc will perform at Tottenham Hotspur stadium on five dates in May and June

Tottenham Hotspur stadium has breached its licence after it sold tickets for a previously unannounced Beyonc concert last month.

The venue is only permitted to host six concerts a year under current rules.

Beyonc was initially only scheduled to hold two concerts at the stadium but, on February 8, the pop star added three extra dates to her tour.

The venue was already due to host the Red Hot Chilli Peppers on July 21 and Wizkid on July 29.

This means that seven gigs are set to be held by the football club this year.

Haringey Council has now confirmed that additional concerts at the venue will require a new planning application.

As well as the five scheduled Beyonc concerts in May and June, events for Red Hot Chilli Peppers (July 21) and Wizkid (July 29) are also scheduled.

Cllr Dana Carlin, Haringey Councils cabinet member for housing services, private renters and planning, confirmed that the Beyonc concerts could go ahead, but that the Wizkid concert at the end of July will now need additional planning permission.

She said: We value what Tottenham Hotspur bring to the local community and the benefits of having a world class multipurpose stadium in our borough.

Welcoming global superstars, like Beyonc, will attract thousands of music fans and benefits our local businesses.

I want to make it clear that the Beyonc concerts can go ahead, but that and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers concert will take the number of music concerts per year up to their maximum of six which Tottenham are fully aware of.

The Wizkid concert in July will now need additional planning permission and it is up to Tottenham to follow the rules and get this in place.

Tottenham Hotspur have been advised that they must engage with the community, ward councillors and submit a planning application which the council will determine with an open mind.

We will continue to advise and work with the club in order to resolve this issue.

Tottenham Hotspur football club declined to comment.
